Best areas to live for commuting to London Bridge

London Bridge is both a major rail station and a large employment area on the south bank of the Thames. The Shard, the More London office development beside Tower Bridge, Guy's Hospital, King's College London's Guy's campus and major media offices are all close to the station, and the City of London is a short walk across the bridge.

The station was rebuilt in the late 2010s to handle more trains, and it now has through services on Thameslink to Blackfriars, Farringdon, St Pancras, Luton and Cambridge, alongside Southern and Southeastern trains to Cannon Street, Charing Cross and destinations across south-east London, Kent and Sussex. The Jubilee line and the Northern line's Bank branch serve the Underground station.

London Bridge is especially convenient for renters in south-east London. Lewisham, Deptford, Greenwich, New Cross, Forest Hill, Crystal Palace and East Croydon all have direct rail services, often taking only ten to twenty minutes. The Jubilee line connects Bermondsey, Canada Water, Canary Wharf, Stratford, Waterloo and West Hampstead, while the Northern line serves Clapham, Balham, Tooting, Borough, Islington and Camden. Walking from Bermondsey, Borough, Elephant and Castle and parts of Southwark is common, and many City workers arriving by train continue across the river on foot. Because so many south-east London lines converge here, disruption on one route can ripple across the others, so it is worth knowing an alternative — the Jubilee line, a bus, or a walk from Elephant and Castle — before you depend on a single train. The station has also become a destination in its own right, with Borough Market beside it.
